7th CPC pay matrix: level, allowances and in-hand estimates

Direct answer

The 7th CPC pay matrix gives a basic-pay cell by level and increment stage; it is not the employee's full take-home salary. An estimate may add applicable DA, HRA and other allowances, then subtract deductions such as employee NPS where applicable. Use the current department orders and posting-city category for actual rates and payroll treatment.

Basic pay is one component

Identify the level and applicable cell from the appointment or recruitment documents. The entry cell shown by a calculator is not necessarily the pay for every employee at that level. Increments, promotion rules, appointment conditions and later orders can alter basic pay.

Build an estimate transparently

A simplified monthly gross model adds basic pay, DA calculated at the applicable rate, HRA at the applicable city category, and eligible fixed allowances. A take-home estimate subtracts employee contributions and other deductions. Pay periods, tax, transport allowance, government accommodation and NPS coverage can change the result.

NPS and current orders

Where the employee contribution rule applies, the estimator on this site uses the requested 10% of Basic + DA assumption for Tier-I. Verify coverage, contribution base and payroll treatment with the employer's current order; don't treat this formula as a universal pay rule or pension advice.

Use the salary calculator for arithmetic only. It cannot issue an official pay slip.

Use official Department of Expenditure and employer orders for current rates, allowances and deductions.
